ARE THE HUNTS SAFE?
Safety is our number one priority at Ringneck Country Hunting. We have a safety meeting before each hunt in which our safety rules are explained. The guides carefully watch gun handling and shooting and will remove any hunter from the party that creates an unsafe hunt.
WHAT KIND OF HUNTING LICENSE DO I NEED?
All hunters must have a South Dakota Hunting License.
CAN I BRING AND HUNT WITH MY DOG?
Certainly. Please keep in mind, depending on the package hunt you are on, there may be hunters that are not in your group. Therefore, to insure a great hunt, we ask that you do not bring a dog that is not already field proven.
ARE THERE SHOTGUNS FOR RENT?
Most hunters prefer bringing their own guns. However, shotguns are available upon request.
DO I NEED A HUNTER'S SAFETY CARD TO PURCHASE A LICENSE?
Not unless you are under the age of 16. Then, you need a previous license from the state of South Dakota or a hunter's safety card and a parent or guardian must sign the license.
WHAT AMMUNITION CAN I SHOOT?
You must shoot 4, 5 or 6 shot. In a 12 gauge, we recommend 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz. of shot and 3 3/4 drams minimum powder charge. Three inch magnums are not recommended for a 12 gauge as they are much slower. In a 20 gauge, a 3" magnum is recommended.
DO I HAVE TO SHOOT STEEL?
No. You can shoot lead as well.
WHAT HUNTING CLOTHING SHOULD I BRING?
State South Dakota weather can change on a moments notice. Our best advice is to layer and include some waterproof clothing. Waterproof boots are highly recommended. We also prefer if you include blaze orange detailing if possible.
WHAT’S THE BEST TIME OF THE SEASON FOR HUNTING?
The hunting at Ringneck Country Hunting is always action-packed, and we guarantee good hunting all season. Pheasant season in South Dakota is from October 20 through January 6 each year.
WHAT TYPE OF GUNS DO YOU RECOMMEND?
We recommend 12 and 20 gauge guns. Double barrels are acceptable, but quick multiple shot opportunities can be missed.
WHAT TYPE OF COVER DO YOU HUNT?
Hunts will be a mixture of cropland, grassland and trees.
DO YOU HUNT PRIVATE OR PUBLIC LAND?
We hunt on our own private land which has been groomed over the years to support multiple hunters with a great hunt and plenty of memories. Our Photo Gallery will give you a good idea of the ground you'll cover when you hunt at Rinkneck Hunting.
HOW DO WE GET OUR GAME HOME?
Bring a cooler along and we will help you pack it correctly, or it can be shipped overnight for an extra fee.
HOW FAR IS THE CLOSEST AIRPORT?
Commercial flights can me booked into the Sioux Falls - FSD airport (80 miles) and private planes can land in Parkston (7 miles) or Mitchell (27 miles).
HOW DO I GET TO RINGNECK HUNTING LODGE?
From Interstate 90 and SD Highway 37, go south 17 miles South and turn right (East) on 272nd Street. Travel 2 1/4 miles and the Lodge is on the South side of the road.
DO YOUR GUIDES HUNT?
If the group is of a smaller size our guides may hunt to help the group have a successful hunt, but we prefer they guide and you do all the shooting.
DO YOU CLEAN AND DRESS MY PHEASANTS FOR ME?
Yes we do. Our professional staff will clean, dress and package your pheasants as part of your standard hunting package.
